Moore, Rodin, Noguchi from Stanton Estate at Christie’s in May

Christie’s has some sculpture to feature in the May sales:

Property from the Estate of Ronald P. Stanton. Highlights from the collection will be featured in the Evening Sales of Post-War and Contemporary and Impressionist and Modern Art in May 15-17. The collection will feature works by Edgar Degas, Auguste Rodin, Camille Pissarro, Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso and Isamu Noguchi.

Balla Revs Up Sotheby’s NY Imp-Mod Sale

Carol Vogel has a star lot for Sotheby’s November sales that comes from a Swiss family’s collection that will lead the auction:

Experts at Sotheby’s estimate that the 14 works will bring a total of $65.4 million to $92.6 million. Included in the group are works by Gris, Miró and Picabia. But the undisputed star is “Automobile in corsa,” from 1913, by the Italian painter Giacomo Balla. A prime example of Balla’s Futurist work, the abstract painting is made up of white, gray and black swirls, composed to give the viewer the impression of a speeding car. Estimated to sell for $12 million to $18 million, it has been included in major exhibitions throughout Europe.
