Russians Come Back to Miami on Hopes Sanctions Will Fall, Will the Art Market Be Far Behind?

January 31, 2017 by Marion Maneker

The Daily Mail reports this interesting but not surprising detail that Donald Trump’s presidency has encouraged Russian interest in the Miami real estate market.

More Russians searched for Miami homes more than any other foreign national group in the month of November, a report from the Miami Association of Realtors found.

A year before, Russians were in the number five spot on that same survey. Miami real estate remains an indicator for the art market. Could the Russians return to buying art if sanctions are dropped?

Real estate broker Oren Alexander told the Miami Herald: ‘Most high-net worth Russian clients are pro-Trump. ‘I’m already starting to see them come back. It’s really not surprising.’  […] Particular neighborhoods of note for the Russian moguls include Bal Harbour, Sunny Isles Beach and Fisher Island.

Miami dealer, and frustrated real estate developer, Gary Nader has won a surprising victory in his contentious battle with Miami-Dade College. When last it reached the public, Miami-Dade College was claiming the development project had been abandoned because of Nader’s refusal to sign a pledge not to sue.

The Miami Herald announced last week:

Miami-Dade College must pay art dealer Gary Nader’s legal fees in litigation related to his frustrated bid to build a cultural center at the school’s downtown campus, a state appeals court has ruled.

The order by a three-judge panel of the Third District Court of Appeal sends the matter back to a lower court to determine the amount of fees MDC owes the art dealer’s Nader+Museu partnership.
