North Britain’s Cohen Sells in the Southern Hemisphere

Here’s an interesting turn of events in the global art market. Colin Gleadell reports that Frank Cohen, the retail mogul and industrial-scale art buyer, is divesting himself of a number of works by Chinese, Korean, Indian, Iranian, European and American artists who were once all the rage in London and New York.

The sale takes place in September but Cohen’s selling the horde, which Gleadell estimates in the region of £5m, in Australia at Mossgreen’s. The auction house says one in five of their Asian customers is a Chinese who owns property in Australia:Continue Reading

Indian Artists Come from the North

Colin Gleadell reports on the upcoming sale of Indian works by North England collector, Frank Cohen, who is selling through Phillips de Pury in London.

Ironically, the sale is to be held at the Saatchi Gallery while Saatchi’s collection of Indian art is still on view in the exhibition The Empire Strikes Back. The rivalry between the two collectors is acknowledged, but friendly. Cohen held an exhibition of Indian art two years ago which he called Passage to India.
