Artelligence Podcast: Pamela Joyner on Collecting Abstract Art by African-American Artists

December 5, 2019 by Marion Maneker

Pamela Joyner’s collection of abstract art by African-American artists includes some of the giants of the field like Alma Thomas, Jack Whitten and Sam Gilliam. Her collecting focuses on supporting scholarship as much as acquiring and donating important works by African American artists to institutions like the Tate Modern in Britain. In this podcast, Joyner talks about her strategies for collecting and promoting artists she believes are historically important and culturally relevant.
