Alighiero Boetti made somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 Mappe (maps) throughout his career over more than 20 years of global historical
and geopolitical change. Tornabuoni’s stand at Art Basel this year will bring together all eight different types of Mappe that Boetti created, from his first, in 1968, to the last, made in 1994, the year of his death:
Tornabuoni Art’s Boetti Map Project gathers together all the different types of Mappa that Boetti made throughout his career, from the 1970s – 90s. This is the first time this has ever been done at an art fair or by a dealer. The only other time something like this was done was at the Tate/MoMA Boetti retrospective in 2015-16.
Tornabuoni Art’s Boetti Map Project is an unprecedented stand – they are gathering together all the different types of Mappa that Boetti made throughout his career, from the 1970s – 90s, the first time this has ever been done at an art fair or by a dealer – the only other time something like this was done was at the Tate/MoMA Boetti retrospective in 2015-16. Beyond being striking works of art, Boetti’s Mappe also chronicle an evolving geopolitical panorama, showing the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the fall fo the USSR, the end of Apartheid.
