Hauser & Wirth’s Frieze New York 2019 booth will feature Jenny Holzer in a solo exhibition:
Over the course of four decades, Holzer’s uncanny and trenchant use of language has galvanized dialogue in the public realm, where her site-specific works address both individual and collective experiences of power and violence, vulnerability, and tenderness.
Hauser & Wirth’s stand will comprise major works from across Holzer’s diverse practice. The focal point will be her four-sided LED sculpture ‘MOVE,’ 2015. Other highlights include a selection of stone benches and a group of new Redaction Paintings, which reveal Holzer pushing her ongoing series into new territory through the introduction of gold and palladium leaf. In this series of paintings, Holzer draws from American military and intelligence documents made public through the Freedom of Information Act, highlighting and questioning censorship.
The gallery’s presentation at Frieze New York coincides with ‘Jenny Holzer: Thing Indescribable,’ the artist’s retrospective on view at the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao in Spain, through 9 September 2019, and marks Hauser & Wirth’s expanded representation of Holzer in the United States.
