Noted collector Barney Ebsworth died earlier this month. He is said to have donated much of his art to Seattle’s art museum. His collecting was the subject of a profile nine years ago.
Ebsworth launched the Intrav travel company in 1959, and took it public in 1995. In 1999 the company, which owned the Clipper Cruise Line, was sold to Kuoni Reisen Holding of Zurich for $115 million. Ebsworth also was the original investor in Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc. His Windsor Capital Inc. venture firm invested $4.3 million in the company in 1998. Ebsworth sold the last of his shares in Build-A-Bear in 2010.
