Mugrabis Offer $1m to Settle $500k Storage Bill They Say Is a Mistake: The Art Newspaper is reporting that the court has ordered Mana Contemporary to release the five works the Mugrabi family has sold or promised to exhibitions in exchange for “$1m promised by the Mugrabis.” If Mana does not comply, it must release all of the 1389 works held. The Art Newspaper offers no documents to explain this solution to the court case. In those papers, the Mugrabi family has submitted a memorandum outlining a rent-free deal to store works in Mana’s space in Luxembourg’s freeport. Why the Mugrabis would agree to put up twice the $500k Mana claims it is owed, The Art Newspaper doesn’t explain. …

The latest is an unconventional Philip Guston work on offer at Christie’s that Loic Gouzer has posted. There’s no estimate yet. So we can play a little guessing game until the catalogue comes out. Patrick Caulfield Hits Strong Price in Hodgkin Auction: The Patrick Caulfield painting that was a gift to Howard Hodgkin was going to sell at the auction no matter what due to an irrevocable bid. Estimated at £300-500k, it sold for £524k or the second highest price ever for the artist. The whole sale made nearly £5.2m.
