Deepak Shahdadpuri is a Singapore-born Indian investor who has a stake in Saffronart. GQ India did a brief profile of him that really doesn’t touch on the art market per se but Shahdadpuri makes a point that really can’t be repeated enough these days. Global culture is beginning to have common features that are often expressed in local ways. Here’s what he said:
“Increasingly, a 20-year-old anywhere around the world watches the same thing, reads the same thing, wants the same thing,” he says, sipping on green tea. “So if someone in New York is obsessed with something, someone in London is eating something, someone in Singapore is buying something, there’s no reason why someone in India won’t want it too. The same trends will come here. It’s only about how soon.”
