Lisa Schiff Explains Cindy Sherman Before Market Moment

May 11, 2017 by Marion Maneker

The Mnuchin Gallery exhibition of Cindy Sherman’s work co-curated by Philippe Ségalot and Sukanya Rajaratnam has proved a magnet for the art press. In this video, art advisor Lisa Schiff walks through the show with Bloomberg’s James Tarmy. They don’t really get to the video’s central question—why is Sherman’s art worth so much money?—but that’s not really the point. (By the way, the answer lies more in the originality, historical importance and compelling nature of her imagery than whether her work is an investment.) As Tarmy points out, there are a number of Sherman works on the market next week, including some of her more recognizable images.
