Since joining Hauser + Wirth in 2013, Paul Schimmel had seemed to be a key figure in the gallery’s important curatorial shows of Philip Guston and Mike Kelley as well as spear-heading the expansion into a massive new Los Angeles facility dubbed Hauser, Wirth & Schimmel.
Today it was announced that there will have to be new signage in LA as the firm has parted ways with Paul Schimmel. Hardly the first curator to give art dealing a try, Schimmel has not announced his plans publicly.
Here is Hauser + Wirth’s statement:
Iwan Wirth and Manuela Wirth, Co-Founders and Co-Presidents of Hauser & Wirth, announced today that Paul Schimmel will no longer serve as Director, Partner, and Vice President of the gallery.
Marc Payot, Partner and Vice President of Hauser & Wirth, who currently oversees all Hauser & Wirth activities in the United States, will henceforth be in charge of the gallery in Los Angeles. Stacen Berg continues in her role as Hauser & Wirth’s Senior Director in Los Angeles.
