Aboriginal Art Returns to London at Sotheby’s

August 17, 2016 by Marion Maneker

The Australian Financial Review previews an interesting sale of Australian Aboriginal art that will take place in London this Fall. Drawn from European and US collections, it is one of the first Aboriginal art sales to take place in the Northern Hemisphere in some time.

Among the canvases is Michael Nelson Jagamara’s much admired Five Stories, a 1.8m wide work from Papunya in 1984 estimated at  £150,000 to £200,000. Extensively exhibited and documented, it was shown at Dreamings: The Art of Aboriginal Australia at the Asia Society Galleries in New York in 1988 and is the cover illustration for Peter Sutton’s book on that show.
