Widow Wanted Xu Beihong, Got Replica Instead

Substituting paintings seems to be the theme of the weekend as a trial in Singapore opened concerning a 42-year-old who seems to be taking advantage of an elderly lady. Channel News Asia has the story of how the younger man passed off this work as a Xu Beihong original:

Former China tour guide Yang Yin was entrusted with S$500,000 by an 89-year-old Singaporean widow to buy a painting, but he did not use it for its intended purpose and instead procured a replica as a cover-up. […] Yang is accused of misappropriating S$500,000 from Madam Chung Khin Chun in 2010, and another S$600,000 in 2012.
