ArtBasel Hong Kong Sales Report

The New York Times closes out the reporting from ArtBasel Hong Kong with these sales:

Pace

  • sold four works by Robert Rauschenberg, including one to an important Asian museum. The gallery sold around 25 works, including pieces by Yoshitomo Nara and Zhang Xiaogang and, on the last day, Agnès Martin and Alexander Calder.

Tyler Rollins Fine Art

  • sold four works by the Vietnamese-American artist Tiffany Chung for $28,000 each. It also sold a large installation by Ms. Chung artist to M+, the museum of visual culture that is scheduled to open in Hong Kong in 2019.

Chemould Prescott Road of Mumbai, India,

  • sold several works by the artist and architect Bijoy Jain of Studio Mumbai to the M Woods Museum in Beijing for $10,000 each.

Ink Studio in Beijing

  • sold several works by Li Huasheng for between $58,000 and $120,000, while Long March Space in Beijing sold works by a number of Chinese artists, including Wang Jingwei and Zhan Wang.

Dealers Report Strong Sales at Art Basel Hong Kong  (The New York Times)

Christophe Van de Weghe

  • a Sam Francis sold on the first night at US$475,000.

David Zwirner gallery

  • five works from Michaël Borremans and sold them all, with one going to the Shanghai collector Qiao Zhibing and another to Long Museum’s Wang Wei (prices between US$250,000 and $1.6m). “

Kamel Mennour

  • paintings by Camille Henrot and a sculpture by Huang Yong Ping at  (€600,000).

Night Gallery

  • works by Mira Dancy (about US$35,000) sold to Singapore and Shanghai buyers,

Galerie Nathalie Obadia

  • an Australian buyer pounced on Xu Zhen’s eye-catching 2011 tapestry “Self-Consumption” (€100,000)

  • Sold an important CY Twombly work to a private European collector. Asking price USD 10 million

Tina Keng Gallery (Taipei, Beijing) 耿畫廊(台北、北京)

  • Wang Huaiqing(王懷慶)Chinese Emperor – 5, 2015  & Chinese Emperor – 6, 2015  200 x 135cm each Two works sold for USD 3.3million in total.
  • Peng Wei(彭薇)You Came into My Head, 2015 145 x 338cm Sold for RMB 2.6million
  • All works on the booth are sold to collectors from Taiwan, Mainland China, Indonesia, Singapore, Italy.

  • two sales in the first few hours of the fair: a 1963 red painting by Zao Wou-Ki and another red work by Ma Sibo, A Day Within a Day (2016). The booth was filled with red works.

ShugoArts

  • a painting by emerging Japanese artist Masaya Chiba sold for $40,000 and a life-sized wood sculpture of a magnolia by Yohishiro Suda went for $27,000.

Contemporary Fine Arts

  • a €42,000 ($47,000) piece by Gert and Uwe Tobias sold.
