With MoMA Show Ending, Disputed Picasso Statue Goes to Gagosian for Safekeeping

February 2, 2016 by Marion Maneker

Disputed Picasso

With less than a week to go before the Picasso sculpture show closes at MoMA, someone had to figure out where the disputed work would be delivered. The parties have reached a deal but it seems to favor Gagosian:

The two parties disputing the sculpture’s ownership — the dealer Larry Gagosian and a representative of the Qatar royal family — have agreed that the statue will go to the Gagosian Gallery until the conflict is adjudicated. […]

Jo Becker Laird, a lawyer for Mr. Bennett, said that Mr. Gagosian would hold the sculpture but that if for any reason Mr. Gagosian wanted to move the bust, he would have to notify the other side before doing so. The Gagosian Gallery did not respond to a request for comment.
