The Color Is Money in Gemstones

October 13, 2015 by Marion Maneker

The Telegraph has an informative chart of all the colored gemstones currently appreciating in value. The newspaper attributes some of this gain to the increased access internet bidding is bringing to jewelry auctions which were once industry-only affairs but are now increasingly retail. (Click through to the story to see the list of gemstones.)

Gemstone prices at auction are ever on the up, with stones of all kinds attaining astonishingly high rates under the hammer. […] Coloured stones in particular are attracting attention with rubies and sapphires setting records, while pink diamonds are becoming ever more sought-after as supplies in Austrailia’s Argyle mine dwindle. The sales success of exceptional gems can also in part be attributed to auction houses embracing the digital age.
