New York Star Lots Debut in Hong Kong (Lichtenstein)

October 2, 2015 by Marion Maneker

Christie's Lichtenstein

There’s been a lot of talk in the art market about Christie’s unusual silence about its New York sales in November. Although the auction house revealed it would offer a $100m Modigliani and hold another gigaweek schedule, few other hints have been dropped.

Now it appears that the strategy is to announce works in Hong Kong. Christie’s Brett Gorvy used Instagram to casually drop thisĀ 1964 Roy Lichtenstein enamel.

The work is similar to Girl in Mirror, an edition of which sold for nearly $7m in 2014.

Gorvy says he saw it in storage in Florida. Now its in Hong Kong hoping to attract bidders who might offer in New York for work.
