The $70m Jeff Koons That You Can Own

September 24, 2015 by Marion Maneker

Koons Yellow Balloon Dog Plate

Artcurial announced this week it would be the exclusive European retailer of Jeff Koons’s Balloon Dog plate previously only available through LA MoCA as a fundraiser. This yellow version comes in an edition of 2300 with 50 artist’s proofs.

Together with the previous red and blue editions, there are 7000 works in the edition. The red and blue plates trade at prices above $10,000 on the secondary market and the yellow costs $8000 at MoCA and €8600 at Artcurial. No word on what Berardaud will charge once they begin selling it in Europe next year.

Taken altogether, the whole edition of the balloon dog plates have a market value of $70m, 20% more than one of the five balloon dog works sold for just a few years ago.
