Google Honors Husain on India Homepage

September 17, 2015 by Marion Maneker

Time reports that Google India is celebrating MF Husain’s 100th birthday with a Google Doodle:

Thursday’s Google Doodle on google.in honors what would have been the 100th birthday of Maqbool Fida Husain, more commonly known as M.F Husain, one of India’s most respected artists who died at the age of 95 on June 9, 2011.

Born in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, he painted in an abstract style, earning him the moniker “the Picasso of India.” His portrayals of famed Indian deities and use of nudity garnered controversy, especially towards the end of his career, NDTV reports.
