Here are some of Sotheby’s high-level talking points for the sale:

o Tonight’s sale achieved the second-highest result in Company history for any auction of Impressionist & Modern Art, following the November 2014 sale in New York that brought $422.1 million

o Asian private collectors purchased three of the sale’s top five lots (each over $20 million) – including the landscape by van Gogh that led the auction – and contributed more than 30% of the auction total

o More than 1/3rd of the lots on offer tonight came to auction after more than 50 years tucked away in their respective private collections, and more than 50% of the lots had never appeared at auction before
