It seems like ancient history but 2010 was a miraculous year in the art market. While global economies still reeled from the effects of the credit crisis, the art market saw a series of record-setting sales ranging across genres. First, it was a $104m Giacometti, then a Picasso painting that edged out the record followed by a wild week of Warhol-selling in New York.
Tucked in there was a dramatic $52m sale in Paris of a Modigliani sculpture. Now Sotheby’s is bringing another, similar-but-slightly-larger work of Modigliani sculpture from the same year to market in November.
