Wright Art + Design = $3.3m

Pistoletto, Tenda Blu (150-200k) 605k USD

Wright in Chicago held a sale on Tuesday that featured the collection of Dr. Martyna Miskinis. The sale totaled $3.3m led by

Tenda blu (Blue Curtain), by Michelangelo Pistoletto (Lot 103). This 1967 artwork has never before been presented to the market and sold for $605,000, quadrupling its low estimate of $150,000. Also outstanding in the collection is Singing in the Rain, an early painting by Walasse Ting (Lot 110). Estimated at $20,000-30,000, this 1966 action painting sold for $143,000.

Some of the works from the Miskinis collection which totaled $2.1m were:

–  Lot 105: Alexander Calder, Untitled. Estimate: $50,000-70,000. Result: $112,500
–  Lot 108: Harry Bertoia, Untitled (Bush From). Estimate: $30,000-50,000. Result: $87,500
–  Lot 115: John Hoyland, 24.9.70. Estimate: $15,000-20,000. Result: $37,500
–  Lot 122: Jasper Johns, Figure 2. Estimate: $10,000-15,000. Result: $21,250
–  Lot 125: Alexander Calder, Kakémono. Estimate: $30,000-50,000. Result: $68,750
–  Lot 132: Wayne Thiebaud, Lipstick Row (from Seven Still-Lifes and a Rabbit). Estimate: $5,000-7,000. Result: $12,500
–  Lot 148: Jesús Rafael Soto, Escritura (from the Serie Sintesis). Estimate: $7,000-9,000. Result: $22,860
–  Lot 149: Yayoi Kusama, Nostalgia. Estimate: $30,000-40,000. Result: $77,500
–  Lot 154: Attributed to Isamu Noguchi and Jeanne Reynal, coffee table. Estimate: $50,000-70,000. Result: $68,750
–  Lot 319: Paul Jenkins, Phenomena Jade Chimes. Estimate: $15,000-25,000. Result: $42,500
–  Lot 344: Sam Gilliam, Lisa G. Estimate: $3,000-5,000. Result: $20,000
–  Lot 352: Christian Krekels, coffee table. Estimate: $7,000-9,000. Result: $27,940
