Next Friday, there will be an unveiling in London of Large Spindle Piece by Henry Moore, the first piece of public art to be installed at King’s Cross Square, part of King’s Cross rail station which happens to connect London to Hertfordshire where the Henry Moore Foundation is located and to Yorkshire where the Henry Moore Institute resides, which opened in September last year as part of the major £550m redevelopment of King’s Cross station.
The 75,000 sq ft public square is part of the station redevelopment, which has been a catalyst for one of the largest regeneration schemes in Europe, with 67 acres of brown-field land being redeveloped to home 50 new buildings, 2,000 new homes, 20 new streets, 10 new public squares, 67 acres, and 45,000 people who live, work and study in the area. The 3-metre high bronze sculpture, created in 1974, has been exhibited around the world as one of Moore’s most important monumental works.
