Colin Gleadell reports on the statement issued by Christie’s over the weekend:

Christie’s Indian art department loses its leading light this week, when Hugo Weihe, who has spearheaded the successful department for 10 years, takes his leave. “Hugo has been instrumental in building a strong team who will continue to work together across … New York, London and Mumbai,” Christie’s said in a business-as-usual statement last weekend. Weihe’s resignation follows a restructuring in which Indian art will be subsumed within World Art, which includes Islamic art, Antiquities and Tribal art. The new World Art department will be headed by William Robinson from the Islamic department.
