Iran Continues to Have an Appetite for Art

June 30, 2014 by Marion Maneker

The Iranians are more comfortable with using a museum as the venue for an art fair, according to the Tehran Times:

Works by Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali were some of the major works sold in the International Gallery Exposition at Tehran’s Qasr Garden Museum.

A Picasso was sold to a private collector for €100,000, the expo executive director’s, Hamed Asghari, told the Persian service of IRNA on Sunday.

One item by Dali, displayed in the expo by a Spanish gallery, was sold for €9400, he added.

Several Iranian artworks were also sold at good prices, having attracted the collectors, he said.

Twenty-four galleries from different countries displayed about 240 valuable artworks at the exposition, which came to an end yesterday.
