Bloomberg on Art Theft

Bloomberg on Art Theft

The ladies at In the Loop tried to provide an overview of art theft today. They did a pretty good job running the gamut from the Gardner heist to Gundlach to Knoedler but they couldn’t help but mangle a few things. The funniest was pointing out that Steve Martin had owned one of the Beltracchi works (a fake Campedonck)—which is correct—but suggesting that Martin sold the work at a loss because it was found to be a fake when, in reality, Martin sold the work at a loss long before he discovered it had been painted by Beltracchi.
