Richter Dominates Living Artists Sales Since 2011

May 12, 2014 by Marion Maneker

Artnet Top 100 Living Artists List

Artnet has published a list of top living artists and their total sales at auction since 2011. It isn’t a surprise that Gerhard Richter is at the apex of the list but what is interesting to see is how lopsided his dominance is. Richter’s total sales for that period are more than $750m but the next artist on the list, Zeng Fanzhi, comes in at less than 30% of that figure. Further down the list, an important artist like Wayne Thiebaud is generating 1/9th as much.
