Top Lots:

Glenn Brown, Ornamental Despair (Painting for Ian Curtis) copied from ‘The Stars Like Dust, 1986 by Chris Foss 1994,£3,554,500 – well over top estimate (£2-3million), and more than 100 times the sum the same work made in 2002 (£32,900)

Andreas Gursky, Paris, Montparnasse, 1993, made £1,482,500 – more than three times the previous record for this image ( £461,000 / $600,000 in 2001.) Sold by Deutsche Telekom to fund further acquisitions for its collection

Wade Guyton, Untitled, est: £300,000-400,000 –  made £626,500

Nate Lowman, Pink Altima, est £80,000-120,000, made double estimate £206,500

Alex Hubbard, Dead in Pompeii, 2011, est £40,000-60,000, made £98,500 / $157,521 – record for the artist at auction

Hurvin Anderson – House £278,500, est £120-180,000

Four lots from the Collection of The Late Stanley J Seeger (lots 7-10) £2,05m  –  more than twice their estimate (£880,000 – £1,250,000)

 

Fontana – Eight works by Lucio Fontana sold tonight for a total of £4,648,000, including:

o   Concetto Spaziale, lot 20, oil on canvas, 1960, made £1,584,500 (est: £1-1.4m)

o   Concetto Spaziale, 1962, lot 4, made £848,376 (est: £400,000-500,000)

o   Crosifissione, lot 3, made 3x top estimate: £215,092 (est: £50,000-70,000)

Marino Marino,  L’Idea del Cavaliere, lot 11, bronze, 1955, made £962,500 (est: £800,000-£1,200,000)

 

Alberto Burri, Biano-Rosso, lot 8, made £854,500 (est: £400,000-600,000); Cretto, lot, 10, made £626,500 (est: £300,000-400,000)
