ArtTactic is promoting their new report on the Damien Hirst market. Why? We can’t tell you. (And we haven’t seen the report.) But they’re teasing their research with these two facts that could use some further explanation. Is White Cube reporting all of their primary and secondary sales of Hirst’s work? These numbers suggest spots are nearly 25% of the artist’s output but what is the composition of other works?
White Cube Gallery has confirmed that gallery sales of Damien Hirst were in excess of $110 million in 2012, which is more than five times higher than the equivalent sales achieved at auction.
Damien Hirst is currently working on a definitive catalogue of all his works. ArtTactic has received a confirmation from Hirst’s company, Science Ltd, that the total number of original works (paintings and sculpture) produced up until today is just under 6,000, with another 2,000 drawings.
