Scott Reyburn has the announcement that Christie’s November sales in New York will be built on the foundation of Jan Krugier’s collection being offered at $170m estimate and including 150 lots, a substantial number from Picasso like the maquette for Chicago’s massive “Tete” which has a $25-35m estimate and a 1971 “Buste d’Homme” that carries a $6-8m estimate. Other highlights include a Kandinsky valued at $20-25m and a Giacometti Femme de Venise I with a $9-12m estimate range:
“Jan was a great dealer,” the London-based gallerist Richard Nagy, who bought works from Krugier, said in an interview. “Because of his connection with the Picasso family, no one could compete with him in terms of the volume and breadth of works in different media he was able to sell.”
