Collectors Kravis & Bryant Battle Over Jasper Johns Triptych

January 25, 2013 by Marion Maneker

jasper-johns-tantric-detail-i-ii-iii-1352401460_bHenry Kravis is a little pissed at Donald Bryant. The two art collectors were supposed to share some Jasper Johns works before donating them to MoMA but now Kravis says Bryant is welching, according to Katya Kazakina at Bloomberg:

Kravis accused Bryant of breaching contracts under which the two men agreed to share in the purchase of the works, “Tantric Detail I,” “Tantric Detail II,” and “Tantric Detail III,” and donate them to the museum after they had an opportunity to individually display the works.

In his suit filed yesterday in Manhattan state court, Kravis said Bryant, a collector who lives in New York, is holding the paintings “hostage” until the financier agrees to new terms under which the pieces would no longer be donated.
