December 22, 2011 by Marion Maneker

Pia Catton reports in the Wall Street Journal that New York’s Park Avenue Armory seeks to expand it’s programming by hiring an artistic director:

Alex Poots, currently the director of England’s Manchester International Festival, has been appointed the Armory’s first artistic director, the venue’s president and executive producer, Rebecca Robertson, said Wednesday.

Mr. Poots will take the reins in early 2012 for the development of the Armory’s 2013 season. He’ll continue to head the Manchester festival, for he which he has commissioned works by artists such as Robert Wilson, Björk and Rufus Wainwright. The appointment is also expected to facilitate opportunities for co-commissions with like-minded arts organizations.
