Pechstein Highest Priced Sale in Germany for 2011

December 19, 2011 by Marion Maneker

Georgina Adam calls attention to Germany’s sale of double-sided Max Pechstein painting for well in excess of its estimates:

a German collector paid €3.5m at Ketterer Kunst in Munich this week for Max Pechstein’s double-sided work titled “Weib mit Inder auf Teppich” (Woman with Indian man on carpet) and “Früchte II” (Fruits)” from 1910. Estimated at just €600,000, the price of the German expressionist painting soared as bidders from Ukraine, Britain, Greece, Cyprus, the US, Germany, Austria and Switzerland chased it to a new high for the artist.
