Masterpiece Auction House had a sale in Singapore last weekend that totaled Sg$3m and featured strong interest in Indonesian painters (note Sg$ is .77 of US$.) The Jakarta Globe keeps score:
Out of the 100 lots, 86 were sold and some works by big names went for almost triple their pre-sale estimate.
Popular Indonesian artist Affandi’s Nyeleret (On Fly) went for Sg$234,000, up from its starting bid of Sg$70,000 while Indonesian artist Sudjojono’s Gunung Gede Dan Pangrango (Mount Gede And Pangrango) went for Sg$168,000 from a starting bid of Sg$50,000.
Affandi’s works have been acquired by major art collectors and institutions since the 1950s and Sudjojono is considered to be the father of modern art in Indonesia.
The top lot was Indonesian modern art pioneer Hendra Gunawan’s Happy Family (right), which went for Sg$264,000 from a pre-sale estimate of between Sg$220,000 and Sg$330,000.
