Strauss & Co. is pushing hard on its upcoming South African art sale coming on the 26th. Besides work by Irma Stern, there’s this Pierneef:

In 1930 the Women’s Committee of Pretoria wished to present Princess Alice, leading patron of the arts in South Africa, with a gift of two works by Pierneef, an artist for whom she had a great affinity and admiration. She chose two paintings, one of which is on offer at the Strauss & Co auction to be conducted on 26 September. This painting, which hung in Kensington Palace for many years, is expected to fetch over half a million rand.
