Sarasota Florida is the latest venue for an art dealer who sold works and kept the proceeds. While not quite the $5m that Scott Cook is accused of walking off with, this dealer was convicted of keeping $300,000 in proceeds:
Robert Preiss, the owner of R&R Bond Gallery at 18 South Boulevard of the Presidents, faces up to 30 years in prison. Preiss, 46, was arrested in August 2009 after the fraudulent sale of many works, including a Salvador Dali sculpture valued at $22,000. The money was never turned over to the seller, according to court documents.
