Christie's Exploding Private Sales

Earlier this year, Christie’s announced a new emphasis on private sales and the numbers explain why. Here’s a chart of Christie’s private sales in dollars over the last 10 years. You’ll see that the first half of 2011 saw private sales greater than in any other full year:

This chart also reminds us that the previous peaks in private sales took place during the height of the market peak in 2007.
