Artnet Makes a Record Online Sale with $1.3m Warhol Flowers

July 20, 2011 by Marion Maneker

Artnet’s online sale set a record price for a work of art sold through the internet. In Artnet’s auctions, the works are not available to be viewed either at a showroom hosted by Artnet or privately at a storage facility. Those restrictions might have had something to do with the failure of John Chamberlain’s Mrs. Yif Nif to find a buyer in the $3m range. Or not. We’ll never know.

What we do know is that with this sale, Artnet breaks an important barrier for internet art sales.
