Shot Heard Round the World: Frieze Comes to NY

May 18, 2011 by Marion Maneker

The Financial Times says Frieze is coming to New York in May on Randall’s Island:

At 20,000 square metres, it will be the same size as London’s Frieze fair and will hope to attract about 170 galleries.

The second London fair will be Frieze Masters, which will take place at the same time as the main contemporary art fair and will also be housed in Regent’s Park. It will feature about 70 galleries selling art produced before 2000, including antiquities.

Of course, any New Yorker will tell you that Randall’s Island is tough to imagine as a successful venue. Squeezing the fair on top of the May auctions will also be interesting to watch.
