Canadian auction house, Heffel, held it’s sale in Vancouver last night with a strong sell-through of 93% and some new names breaking through the C$1m barrier.
The unofficial total was $8.8 million for the Canadian Post-War and Contemporary Art section, with 81 of 87 lots selling. […] E.J. Hughes has joined the million dollar club of Canadian artists, and so has Quebec’s Jean Paul Lemieux. The vibrant 1948 Hughes painting, Coastal Boats Near Sidney, BC, sold for $1.14 million at the Heffel auction of Canadian Post-War and Contemporary Art at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Tuesday afternoon. A few minutes earlier, Lemieux had hit seven figures with Les Moniales at $1.02 million.
