Sotheby's Impressionist & Modern Evening Sale = $170m

The big lots didn’t perform tonight at Sotheby’s with many of the top works selling at the low end of the estimate range or for hammer prices below the low end. Gauguin’s Tahitian head made $11m with premium but Picasso’s “Femmes Lisant” went for a disappointing $21m. In all, the sale showed few breakout works but solid sales, including these surprises:
