Romania's ArtMark Sets Records

April 1, 2011 by Marion Maneker

The Romanian art market refuses to be left behind the international explosion of art prices, according to Romania Business Insider:

The painting “Pub in Rucar” (Carciuma la Rucar) by famous Romanian painter Nicolae Grigorescu has set a new record for the art market in Romania, after having been sold for EUR 230,000 at the Artmark auction house in Bucharest. On the same occasion, another work by Grigorescu named “At the edge of the forest” (La marginea padurii) was bought for EUR 200,000. This amount surpassed the previous record of EUR 175,000, set last year by another Grigorescu painting, “Shepherdess” (Pastorita).
