Buy Two, They're Cheap

The Sydney Morning Herald has a nice story profiling collectors and their paths into the art market. There’s the usual exhortations to buy what you love, do your homework, etc. But there’s also this great piece of advice:

The collector Paul Jarvis has a different approach. When he discovers an artist he loves at a price he can afford, he buys two. ”Many dealers will tell you they buy one to keep and one to sell,” he says.
