South African Looks to Join the Art Rebound

March 14, 2011 by Marion Maneker

In less than two weeks, Bonhams  will hold its London sale of South African art with works by Irma Stern leading the country’s art to new price records. If that does happen, South African artists working today might see some of the benefit:

According to Stefan Hundt, a specialist at Sanlam Private Investments’ Art Advisory Service, a rebound in the art market is likely this year. And while it could be a good year for sellers, there are also opportunities for buyers. Hundt said investors should keep an eye on maturing contemporary artists, whose works might enjoy solid gains over the next few years.
