Regional Auction Houses Look to China

March 11, 2011 by Marion Maneker

The appetite for Chinese works of art, especially from the Qianlong era, continues to transform regional auction houses in the US and UK. After astonishing sales in San Francisco and London’s suburbs, Philadelphia’s Freeman’s is offering three works from a Boston collector that could attract serious bidding.

The top lot is a large blue and white Ming-style vase that Freeman’s says is comparable to one sold for $467,000 in 2008. There is also a jade vase and another Qianlong vessel in the sale.
