Julian Schnabel's Big Pictures

Suzanne van der Lingen writes about The Hague Photomuseum’s show of large format Polaroids taken by Julian Schnabel who apparently has one of the 20 x 24 cameras (the museum calls his camera home-made but doesn’t explain its origin.)

The exhibition consists of large format polaroids taken by Julian Schnabel at his studios and homes, picturing his surroundings, friends and relatives. Besides these familial ‘snapshots’, there is also a series of portraits of mentally ill patients- portraits taken in the 19th century and re-photographed by Schnabel using his homemade polaroid camera the size of a fridge. […]

All in all, a great show with some beautiful work to be seen. But of course, I don’t need to tell Schnabel that. I’m sure he already knows.
