Warhol Makes $56.5m Hammer @ Phillips Carte Blanche

November 8, 2010 by Marion Maneker

José Mugrabi had a good night at Carte Blanche at Phillips de Pury. His Warhol sold for $56.5m on the hammer ($63and he bought two works — Murakami’s Miss ko² for $6.8m and Thomas Schutte’s Grosse Geist, No. 16 for $3.6m (according to Carol Vogel) Maurizio Cattelan’s Stephanie $2.4m– before and after the Warhol was on the block.

Though the noted collector dealer remained stone-faced and impassive during the sale of the Warhol and the bidding on his acquisitions, there’s little doubt he left the auction room with profit in his pocket.
