Audio: Matisse, Back No. 4

October 31, 2010 by Marion Maneker

Conor Jordan gives some brief background information on the Matisse Back No. 4 that Christie’s is selling this week with an estimate of $25-35m. As Jordan points out in the audio clip, there are 12 casts. Nine of those are already in museum collections. A private owner has one complete set of all four backs that is expected to end up in a museum some day. So this cast is a rare object indeed.
