Christie's Names New CEO

September 20, 2010 by Marion Maneker

Christie’s has named the former head of Rodale’s publishing division as its new CEO, according to Carol Vogel:

Christie’s, the London-based auction house, announced to its staff on Monday morning that Edward Dolman, its chief executive for nearly 11 years, had been replaced by an outsider, Steven Pleshette Murphy. Mr. Dolman was promoted to the post of chairman of the company worldwide.

Mr. Murphy, 56, was most recently was president and chief executive of Rodale Inc., a publishing company perhaps best known for producing such hits as “The South Beach Diet’’ and “An Inconvenient Truth.’’ Mr. Dolman, 50, who will be based in New York, plans to concentrate on attracting business while Mr. Murphy will move to London and be responsible for the house’s day-to-day operations.
