Allora + Calzadilla Rep US in Venice

September 7, 2010 by Marion Maneker

Carol Vogel has the American choice for the Venice Biennale in June 2011. The US pavilion will be curated by Lisa Freiman of the Indianapolis Museum of Art and she will organize 6 works to be created by Allora and Calzadilla for the fair:

The artistic team of Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla will represent the United States at the 2011 Venice Biennale. The duo, who have been working together since 1995 and live in San Juan, P.R., were chosen by the Federal Advisory Committee on International Exhibitions, a group of arts professionals organized by the National Endowment for the Arts to advise the State Department. Their work explores relationships among art, politics and international identity through performances pieces, sculpture, photography and sound-and-video. This will be the first time a collaborative, rather than a single artist, will represent the United States and the first time that a combination of performance and installation will occupy the pavilion.
